Todaywecontinueanever－endingjourney,－evident,theyhaveneverbeenself－executing;thatwhilefreedomisagiftfromGod,,agovernmentof,andby,andforthepeople,entrustingeachgenerationtokeepsafeourfoundingcreed.

当断则断，莫承其患。孤刚非毅也，媚众不足以为政也，相攻互讦非辩之道也。或问：然则如何？曰：且行之矣，何求尽善尽宜哉？且行之，何求毕功于一役哉？光费城大道者，惟薪火是承，四、十、百年后，其未可知也。

今我誓于此者，非为党为私，是誓于上天与国耳，其与国会山先贤无异。今幸暂摄大位，必谨守我誓。此誓与兵甲受命之誓无异，与移民践梦之誓无异，与星条旗下，我辈壮怀激烈之誓无异也。
